collaboration Roadmap

Overview:
There are opportunities to support existing businesses and launch new businesses in our communities. Businesses require skilled labor. People are looking for opportunities to improve their skills. Build Green Now is focused on Eco-Entrepreneurship Training as a process for building the pipeline necessary to accelerate growth through collaboration.

Insulation Solar-Battery Solutions:

This is likely the single most significate work that we have in mind for 2023. Community members have signed contracts for solutions that under performs and misses their expectations.

To expand the pipeline of candidates trained to work in the PV Solar field, we are excited to confirm a new collaboration with Bill McKnight and the Energy Conservation Services, Inc. team out of Port Ewen.

A next step is to develop a viable micro grid proposal in collaboration with our County Legislators and Central Hudson.

A next step is to complete the PV-Solar Apprenticeship application with the Department of Labor (DOL). A Federally issued DOL code will make PV-Solar training grant funding easier.

A next step is sustaining local and vocal support for building a hemp processing facility in Ulster County. The State legislator is reviewing a proposal at present. See Hemp Mill for details.

Affordable Housing:

We know the need for housing is urgent. At Seed Song Farm, in Kingston, we have formed a committee to focus on retrofitting the existing farm house and creating a plan to set aside land for workforce housing.

Our team is a regional leading in using natural building materials and built NY's first hempcrete retrofit.

A next step is to work with
Nubian Directions and Unfettered Arts to create a plan for remodeling mobile homes. Our partners have a warehouse and a makers space for training and creative work.

A next steps is to work with SUNY Ulster to redesign a certificate programs based on interviews with community leaders and Insulation/PV-Solar-Battery business owners.

Become a Collaborator:
If you are inspired by this approach, please provide a brief response using the form. We will reach out to you with next steps. For example a phone call to discuss ideas aligned with a shared vision/mission.

Creating Community Spaces:

We are collaborating with Pastor Taylor and In Cho (Cho Shields Studio), to create a brick repointing, insulation and design plan for St. Mark's AME, African Methodist Church.

A next step is arranging funding to fix their historic building. Our goal is to create an emergency warming center, child care, and training center. The community values safe spaces offering mentoring and support services leading towards workforce development.

Zero Waste Collaboration:

The Greenway team operates a New York State registered compost facility. They were the "ZERO WASTE" solution vendor for the HUDSON VALLEY GARLIC FESTIVAL / OCTOBER 1 & 2, 2022.

A next step is orchestrating a gathering of trainees and presenting several business opportunities that support Greenway.

This team already has infrastructure and equipment. It is possible to launch the following businesses as teams are trained:
a) compost sales, packaging and delivery
b) no odor compost solutions (for kitchens)
c) backyard micro greenhouse solutions for growing food during winter.=
d) backyard no odor composting

Eco-Entrepreneurship Training collaboration

Eco-Entrepreneurship Roadmap (2022-12-12)

In 2023 our collaboration partners are: Energy Conservation Services, Inc., GreenWay, Nubian Directions, Unfettered Arts, Seed Song Farm, and St. Mark’s AME Church (w/ Cho Shields Studio).

As part of our collaboration, we work with Sustainable Hudson Valley to define goals and missions that are mutually beneficial. We look forward to further developments as they apply for the Mosaic RFP. Our mission is strengthening the workstreams described below.

Our letter of support for the Mosaic RFP is provided below.

Eco-Entrepreneurship Workstreams:

I. Regional Training Collaboration
  1. Offer Hemp House #1 - New York as a training lab to study Hemp-Lime Thermal Design Considerations
  2. Continue work toward BGN Fund I, a $500K pool used to finance Eco_House #1.
  3. Co-create a "Regenerative Technology" Certificate Program (combining electrical, PV Solar-Battery, building sciences, construction content used by SUNY Ulster)
  4. Co-design the "Regenerative Technology" Certificate Program in collaboration with Nubian Directions, SUNY Ulster, SUNY Dutchess, SUNY New Paltz, Youth Build Kingston and Youth Build Poughkeepsie. The goal include ease of access, affordability recognition by employers/colleges.
  5. Work with Ulster Legislators and Dutchess Legislators to allocate funding for equipment, startup costs, student stipends and expenses (like travel) as approved by a project budget. The goal includes providing structure and accountability to work that is already needed across multiple departments and towns.

II. Eco-Entrepreneurship - Money Saving Services
  1. Create a learning experience focused on starting a business and encourage the students to pick one. The goal is to create customized experiences that help accelerate learning.
  2. Create 3 student let project teams (Audit Services and PV Solar-Battery and Eco Food Services). Work with each team to create basic planning and communication documents
  3. Perform at least one energy audit, design an energy/insulation solution and design 1 Eco Food solutions. In this case our goal is to test an implementation of Greenway's Zero Waste solution.

III. Eco-Entrepreneurship - Project Management and Placement Services
  1. In collaboration with Sustainable Hudson Valley, create project launch documents for all three projects (Statement of Work, Schedule, Budget, Resource Plan, Governance Documents etc.)
  2. Create educational experiences for the community based on the projects
  3. Create an investment pool to support a project launch process for students and the community
  4. Host a Project Launch Event where we arrange for investors to hear the pitches and then rank them (ranking determines funding from the pool that we pre announce
  5. Complete the Solar Apprenticeship Program Application to the US Department of Labor
  6. Offer PV Solar-Battery Project Management Services to Ulster County
  7. Design and launch a jobs board to support creation of job placement plans
  8. Strengthen the local tech economy by supporting a local technology development student team (AI and Metaverse and Metrics Presentation Services)
